exhausted from voting, I decided to go to this show in De Choke in Herselt, which is quickly growing to become one of the hottest punkrock-spots! Very cool, cosy venue by the way.
When I arrived Ten Seconds Left started their show. There was a mixup because these guys weren't originally on the bill that night. But because Second Base's bass player called in sick, they found those guys to fill in. Later it turned out Second Base could still play, they shared their 'showtime'.
So, Ten Seconds Left. One of their guitar players didn't make it, as I understood. Which resulted in a sometimes empty sound. These guys are still pretty young with a pretty good potential. Some songs had some impressing parts in them, but be carefull for the 'more of the same' trap, that so many bands in their genre fall into. Their bass-player had a really cool scream! They only played like 4 songs, so I'm looking forward to checking them out more in Meerhout on the 28th.
Next up: Second Base.
These guys just recorded their first full-length and are on the verge of releasing it through Burned Star Records (distribution will be picked up by Funtime Records) and they played some songs of this new album. The show was a bit messy... but as I said before, their bass-player was sick. The sound wasn't all that good either... Their drummer has some impressive moves, but I wonder if he always kept nice in line :- ). Hopefully next time I will also see more of this band, and I'm definitely gonna check out their cd.
and then: The Fire. This is the new band of Olli - Shandon. And what a band...
I can only use superlatives for what I heard... That singer... He really can do it all, screams, high pitched, powerful, soft, ... you name it, he sings it... the perfect example for the word: Frontman. I can do this for every guy in their band I think. Let's try :- ).
Their drummer... the Italian version of Travis Barker comes to mind, without all the tattoos that is. He mixes very powerfull drumming ala Dave Grohl with the Travis Barker finesse, and that with a very high show-element and a never stopping smile.
The other guys were also incredible at what they did. First guitar player with a damn good voice himself, bass player with great loops, fill ins, all the other stuff. other guitar player with cool, extremely tight riffs...
this show had just everything a great show needs.. and their music... ROCK. Think Foo Fighters meets Refused meets... some band that ROCKS YOUR ASS OFF!!
If you have the chance to check this band out, be sure to! You won't regret it!
also, they were accompanied by their 'personal artist' who made a painting of the guys as they were playing and sold it afterwards. Didn't stay to see who bought it, because it was already way passed my bedtime!
